Cruxtec does not use version-number labels such as “HDMI 2.1 cable” as product names. This is intentional.
HDMI Licensing Administrator, Inc. (HDMI LA) requires HDMI cable products to use the appropriate official cable name. Its notice to HDMI cable manufacturers and resellers states that HDMI version numbers must not be used in the labelling, packaging or promotion of cable products.
Why the names can look different
HDMI Specification version references and official cable product names are different. A version number can be used when discussing the specification or features introduced by it, but not to label, package or promote a cable product.
HDMI LA also notes that resellers may use different marketing terms and may not always use the official cable name designations. Cruxtec uses the official naming approach instead.
Official HDMI cable names buyers may see
The official HDMI Cable Overview lists cable types and explains their intended performance. Current and established names include:
- High Speed HDMI Cable;
- Premium High Speed HDMI Cable;
- Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable; and
- Ultra96 HDMI Cable.
The complete official list also includes Standard, Ethernet and automotive cable types.
What buyers can look for
HDMI LA states that the official cable name should appear on the cable jacket. The package should display the cable name logo and/or the appropriate cable certification label.
How Cruxtec is applying the guidance
Cruxtec uses an official cable name or certification category only when it is supported by documentation for the exact model and length. HDMI Specification version references are used only when explaining the specification or its features, not as the cable product name.
In short: not seeing “2.1” in a Cruxtec cable name reflects the HDMI LA naming requirements. It is not an omitted version label.
